Retail apprenticeships

Three new apprenticeship standards have been developed for retail. They form a progressive career pathway, incorporating the knowledge, skills and behaviours employers have defined for today’s industry.

The standards have been designed so that they apply across the sector, allowing organisations to incorporate their own ways of working, products and services into the learning and development, whilst ensuring it meets one national standard.

Employers occupational brief

Occupational briefs have been designed to help employers and training providers plan training programmes and curriculum to ensure the outcome of the apprenticeship standards is met by apprentices. The content has been written by People 1st with the input of employers and providers and are valuable tools to ensure the consistency of apprenticeship training.

These documents have been prepared for use in the apprenticeships as referenced in each assessment plan.

Requirements for English and maths – applicable for ALL apprenticeship standards:

For apprenticeships at level 2:

If an apprentice has not already achieved level 2 English and maths they must:

  • Study for and take the tests for level 2 English and maths
  • Achieve level 1 English and maths

For apprenticeships at level 3 and above:

If an apprentice has not already achieved level 2 English and maths they must:

  • Achieve level 2 English and maths

Withdrawal of apprenticeship pathways

As a result of our sector consultation, and communication with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), People 1st is extending the withdrawal date of apprenticeships pathways for hospitality, travel, bus and coach, retail, funeral services and aviation as outlined here.

These dates are final with exception of the three highlighted pathways where the replacement standards are currently being developed and are subject to approval. Any queries regarding this announcement should be directed to trailblazer@people1st.co.uk
