Developing your apprenticeship strategy

The levy is here – are you prepared?

In April 2017, the government introduced a new apprenticeship levy that has financial implications for businesses. Large employers with a pay bill over £3 million now have to pay an annual apprenticeship levy of 0.5% of their pay bill, which can only be recouped when they employ and train apprentices.

Businesses will also receive a £15,000 annual allowance and an additional contribution of 10% on their monthly levy allocation.

Margaret Mitchell, Head of Human Resources, Center Parcs Ltd

"People 1st has been an incredible support. Apprenticeships can be very complicated for a business that hasn't worked with anything that's based in the government or skills funding agencies before - it's not what we're used to in our world. People 1st has guided us through the process and given us the confidence that we're focussing on the right things and not getting bogged down with what's being said in the media."

- Carly Fish, Skills and Education Lead, Nando's

“People 1st really helped us dilute all the white noise around apprenticeships into something that’s a lot more salient and to the point, which told us what we needed to do. When they came to talk to us, so many lightbulbs went off, and we knew we had to keep them next to us while we were looking for a training provider so we could make sure we were getting the best out of each other. We’ve learnt a great deal from them and we’re now at the point where we know what the right approach is for us. People 1st have been incredibly professional and supportive during this process and we look forward to working with them in the future as we develop our Academy ”
