Aim of the project

The programme aims to support the Indian government (at all levels) in its desire to improve planned urbanisation in India. The programme should be transformational, which means: a) different/additional to what has been delivered before by others; and b) capable of achieving greater impact beyond the limits of the programme, for example through embedding strategic change, through demonstration effect and replicability, and/or through leveraging additional support or investment.

Challenges the project aims to address

This rapid urbanisation has the potential to generate 70% of India’s new jobs and produce 70% of India’s GDP by 2040 thereby driving India’s growth toward upper-middle income status and, in turn, a reduction in its poverty.
