Bloc Hotel Birmingham awarded Games Ready Business recognition
Bloc Hotel, located in Birmingham’s vibrant Jewellery Quarter, has become the first business in the West Midlands to receive the Games Ready Business recognition in the run up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The ‘Getting Games Ready’ training programme was launched by People 1st International and the West Midlands Growth Company back in January to prepare tourism businesses to deliver a world-class visitor experience throughout the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Over 100 businesses have enrolled on the programme so far, and those that train at least 80% of their front-line staff are eligible to apply for the coveted ‘Games Ready Business’ recognition.
Bloc Birmingham being the first to receive such an accolade signals their commitment to delivering a best-in-class customer experience.
With course content based on the WorldHost customer service programme devised by People 1st International, the training undertaken by Bloc helps employees to provide a warm, knowledgeable, and inclusive welcome, share tips about Birmingham 2022 and the Birmingham 2022 Festival and to provide up-to-date, accurate and accessible information to visitors.
It will come as no surprise to industry watchers that Bloc is first to achieve the ‘Games Ready Business’ recognition, what with the boutique hotel chain’s reputation for continuous improvement.
Bloc Birmingham’s General Manager Alex Mee comments, “We are delighted to be the first business to achieve Birmingham 2022 ‘Getting Games Ready’ recognition, underlining our commitment to customer service excellence.
“Taking part ensures our team will have the required knowledge to assist the influx of international visitors with additional local and Games knowledge.
“We can’t wait to welcome visitors to Bloc Jewellery Quarter and the special events we will be running throughout the Games – from free ice cream and beer tasting sessions, local art exhibitions and more.”
Rob Morgan, CEO of Bloc Hotels adds, “Bloc Hotels was born in Birmingham and we’re really excited to welcome some of the world’s best athletes to the city. The fact our superb team is the first to receive ‘Games Ready Business’ recognition makes it even more special.”
Congratulating the hotel on its achievement, Becky Frall, Head of Visitor Attraction at the West Midlands Growth Company, said, “A massive congratulations to Bloc Birmingham on becoming the first business in the region to achieve this recognition.
“Undergoing the Getting Games Ready training programme signals a business’ commitment to a high standard of customer service, enabling them to standout from the crowd this summer.
“With two months to go until the Commonwealth Games, we urge tourism businesses who are yet to enrol in this free training programme to make the most of the opportunity and show visitors the very best of what the West Midlands has to offer this summer.”
