Industry urged to share views on the future digital, green & social skills needs in hospitality & tourism
People 1st International is calling for hospitality & tourism businesses to share their views on the current gaps and future needs of digital, green and social skills in hospitality and tourism as part of two initiatives that aim to establish a strategy for skills development in the industry.
As a key partner of the Next Tourism Generation Alliance (NTG) - which is the first partnership and alliance for improving a collaborative and productive relationship between education and industry – People 1st International is looking for views on the future expectations towards these skills to respond to the fast-changing requirements in digital, green and social skills.
The NTG skill survey results will be used in establishing a blueprint strategy for skills development and to influence national and regional policies in the tourism sector across Europe.
In addition, People 1st International will be using the results of the survey to inform a comprehensive piece of research with businesses across each touchpoint of the full tourism and visitor experience needed as part of the response to the Tourism Sector Deal – announced in principle by government on 27 November 2018 to attract more domestic and overseas visitors and help drive major economic growth.
Sandra Kelly, UK skills & policy director for People 1st International comments:
“The NTG skills survey is an important piece of work that will inform the UK and European skills strategies of the future. It will also provide critical insights that we’ll be using in our work with UKHospitality as a lead partner in the response on the skills piece for the Tourism Sector Deal to help determine the future skills requirements across the sector from entry-level through to management.
A second-stage survey focused on operational and management skills needs will be released in the coming months determine how the industry needs to respond to the future requirements across the full spectrum of roles from entry-level through to management.
Kate Nicholls, CEO for UKHospitality comments:
“We’re delighted that People 1st international is working with us as our expert skills partner to inform the response to the Tourism Sector Deal. We strongly encourage all hospitality and tourism businesses to take part in the NTG survey which will inform the first stage of the skills needs research for the Tourism Sector Deal, as well as shaping European-wide skills strategies for tourism through the Next Tourism Generation Alliance. It is important that the value gained from skills developed in the hospitality sector are fully recognised. ”
