Electric vehicle at charging station

Training and inclusive capacity building for the electrical vehicle transportation space – Egypt

Background

The transport system in Egypt heavily relies on motorised trips, with approximately 12 million motorised vehicles, including taxis, private vehicles, buses, mini-buses, and microbuses. However, motor vehicle emissions contribute significantly to air pollution, a pressing environmental health issue in Egypt. To address this concern and align with the government’s 2030 strategy to reduce emissions and air pollution, there is a push towards sustainable mobility, particularly the adoption of environmentally friendly modes of transport, such as electric vehicles (EVs) and range extended electric vehicles (REEVs).

Aim of the project

The project, funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), aims to support Abou Ghaly Motors (AGM) in developing training and upskilling in key areas of the electrical vehicle space and to strengthen the delivery of safe and accessible transport services for women and people with disabilities in Egypt. Throughout this project People 1st International will initiate a new accredited training programme in collaboration with a local training institution, focusing on essential skills for employability in the sector. This programme will cover EV maintenance and repair, as well as operational planning and service delivery, aligning with best practices and quality standards while tailoring to AGM’s specific needs.

Additionally, internal training at the company will be reviewed and updated to include capacity building for assisting passengers with additional needs, encompassing individuals with disabilities and older passengers. Furthermore, the project aims to support AGM in establishing partnerships with local NGOs and training providers to facilitate job matchmaking and organise job fairs. These initiatives will specifically target young Egyptian females who have received training and certification aligned with the client’s working standards, fostering inclusivity and diversity in the workforce.
